Trayvon Martin-Christian Cultural Cathedral

CHRISTIAN CULTURAL CATHEDRAL, INC.

P.O. Box 8658 Port St. Lucie, Florida 34985-8658

Christian Cultural Cathedral, Inc. supports and promotes Spiritual, Cultural, Economic, and Educational opportunities for all through its programs.

Press Release:

The Christian Cultural Cathedral incorporated is a faith based educational non-profit organization. Our goal is to encourage the arts, the value of learning, and a faith based attitude of love and giving. As such, we cannot remain silent about the so-called “Stand Your Ground” laws which aide in making targets of our vulnerable youth.  The “shoot first” laws need to be repealed in light of the fact that the Police advised the defendant not to continue his actions and he did anyway, proving these laws protect the shooter, even against police authority.

We pray for the family suffering from yet another horrific murder of a black child, the Trayvon Martin Family, and we are determined to continue our program “Save Our Black Boy Child, An Endangered Species”.

Some years ago the Chairperson of C.C.C., Inc distributed ‘The Little Black Book’, authored by Ms. Carol Taylor who wanted to Raise Consciousness and Help Save A  Life.  It is time to resurrect this book. Pastor L. Williams will lead workshops on this survival guide for black youth which has 28 rules for being safer in your surroundings. It even contains information on memorizing the names and telephone numbers of the Police Captain and Principle of your school.  Registration for the Series, Save Our Black Boy Child, An Endangered Species” begins the third Saturday in August, 10:30am at 1592 SE Village Green off of US1 in Port St Lucie, The El Shaddai New Testament COG.  Third Saturdays at El Shaddai is the place to be from 10am to 2pm. All invited. Email: ccc.allinc@gmail.com for info.

The Small and Surprisingly Dangerous Detail The Police Track About You

Catherine Crump

MY COMMENTS********************************************************

OK. There are bad guys and girls out there. Why are multitudes of police and law enforcement tracking the good guys?

Many of the surveillance techniques being used by the police, kept by the police and utilized by the police seem to just end up being a constant monitoring presence for all. When Catherine Crump mentioned the license plate monitors, I first thought of the ones I had seen recently in Yonkers New York. They are attached to the back of police units and basically read plates as the mobile unit goes about its daily routine. If it sees a car with expired plates, stolen plates, unregistered, whatever, the alarm built in goes off and the officer stops his unit and goes back to see who the offender is. of course, no one would think that a plate with no problem is recorded as well. Its time and place of where it is gets cataloged as well. Why? What have they done besides "be somewhere"?

This is the type of monitoring that we as a people must question and ask. Every time one of these equipped cars goes by it knows what plate (car) was where and records this information. Good, bad, Democrat, Republican, it makes no difference. Good honorable law abiding citizens are marked, listed, and categorized for no reason. We are being watched.

4 Pilars of College Success in Science

Freeman Hrabowski

MY COMMENTS**********************************************************

I was very surprised with this video by Freeman Hrabowski dealing with bettering the education process. He deals with Sociology, History, Critical Thinking, and Logic, a bunch of our disciplines. I especially like the idea of redoing the classes in science and engineering to not only make them more fun but to redo them to make learning better. I could have used him to better myself years ago.

I also liked his connection to Dr. Martin Luthor King and how he got his parents to allow him to march at the age of 12. He is a dynamic individual who has a strength to do what's right and help others. My own parents lived as young people back in that era and did go to the march on Washington in 1963. My grandmother and grandfathers generation as well fought for justice and respect. Freeman continues his vision in education and aiding youth, all youth, including so called minorities, in getting better acquainted in the fields of science and engineering. These just happen to be my fields I am studying as well.

He has a very good history of education and speaking. I looked him up after Foundations of Inquiry class and found that he is not only President of the University of Maryland, he is also an advocate and mathematician. Definitely education, which he strives for, is his foundation. Passing what he has learned and making it easier for future generations is his passion. I hope that he will speak in the New York area so that I may see him in person.

He is also an author of many books and articles on the subject of education and excels in aiding disadvantaged youth in pursuing education in the engineering areas where many people of color may lack. I salute him and all o his efforts.

MY COMMENTS***************************************************************

One of the first major movies that I enjoyed as a child was Star Wars. I loved science fiction and this and Star trek were the kings of sci-fi. I was fully entertained and could not wait to get more.  This was over 30 years ago and I still find myself hooked on both series, in movies and in television. Now finally there will be a start of a new series of movies to be started next year. I am a little saddened that George Lucas, the creator, has sold his idea to Disney, but I hope that there will be no loss in story telling and excitement.

Inquisitor's TIE Advanced Prototype

This story of the continuing adventures of Luke Skywalker, his father Anakin, OB1 Kenobi and all the favorite characters will, I am sure, continue on through the years. Connecting to History, Sociology, and Literature, our disciplines, this enjoyable tale is lasting and has brought happiness to me and millions of people. I hope that Disney keeps the Star Wars franchise well and does not fail to live up to the expectations of fans. I already know certain characters such as Lando Calrissian, played by Billie Dee Williams is not in the next installments, which is a shame. he, in many situations would be a great addition to the cast. They could even bring back OB1 Kenobi as a spirit figure, since they have done this before. Keeping with the first six movies they can virtually do anything to keep the fans happy. I hope they continue this trend.

To Be Takei

To Be Takei

MY COMMENTS**********************************************************

I have loved Star Trek as well as Star Wars for years and after seeing the new footage of the soon to be released "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", due out next December I see my old Star Trek icon, George Takei, who is promoting his new movie documentary called "To Be Takei".

George Takei

It is an interesting journey that his life has taken him. From being a young boy in American Concentration camps in the 1940's during World War Two to being an actor to being a fighter for equal rights for gays, he has really been around. The movie focuses on almost all aspects of his life, friends, cast members and politics. I think that it is a must see for all, even if you have met him and shook his hand as I have. His immpeccible speaking abilities have first drawn me in and

Is he on the dark side...or the light?
A black actor who created a disturbance in the Force after he donned the uniform of an Imperial stormtrooper in a much-anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer has told curious fans to
“get used to it.”

Many fans took to the internet after the trailer was posted online on Friday — with some criticizing director J.J. Abrams for casting a black actor to portray a stormtrooper.
But actor John Boyega responded cheekily on Instagram, saying a bit sarcastically, “Thank you for all the love and support! The fan mail...has added to my joy!”

He then added, “To whom it may concern...Get used to it. :)”
It is, of course, unclear if Boyega’s character is one of the Empire’s soldiers or merely wearing the stormtrooper uniform — as heroes Luke Skywalker and Han Solo did in the original “Star Wars” film when they infiltrated the Death Star to free Princess Leia.
The “Episode VII” trailer, which also features a new villain with a menacing three-bladed lightsaber, has been viewed more than 40 million times since Friday.

MY COMMENTS************************************************************

This is the movie that sent me into science fiction years ago. The Star Wars saga. I had always loved Star Trek but this was different and unique. Lots of action, suspense and aliens. I loved it. I am happy that it continues on even though its creator George Lucas sold it to Disney, which I do not like so much. They are trying to buy everything child oriented and mass market it. It takes away from the originality of the subject.

Of course I will still see how they handle it. The younger generation will not know about much of the original movies and their hugely popular affect on culture and the youth of the time. Sociology definitely takes the cake as the discipline that is attached to this subject. Its release date is next year but it might be worth the wait.

Almost Final Interdisciplinary Project

Sekou Williams
FCIQ 101
Professor Ann Marie Klotz
Interdisciplinary Project Article Summation

Topic: Money and Religion and Corruption Within

Over the years there have been many scandals that have rocked the very foundations of many religious institutions all over the world, many of the scandals which concern money. Some have stated that this is a circumstance which is associated with many business, organizations, and governments over the years, and that there is nothing new with scandal or corruption. I feel that there is more of a problem than simple greed in the church and that the report before you opens this “door” and further examines the issue, Does Money corrupt religion? Is there a correlation between Religion and Money and Corruption? There are, I am sure, no lack of examples in the subject I have brought forth. Many of the authors and articles and topics I will list in this Interdisciplinary project will show this to be a relationship that has embarrassed, weakened and disgraced many houses or religion, people and high ranking officials in different churches across the globe. Even the Pope from the Catholic Church has been attacked on this issue on several occasions and continuously deals with this issue constantly. It is an undeniable problem and I intend to show the reader why this is so.

******************************************************************************

As in philosophical, theological and moral applications, corruption is defined by Wikipedia as a spiritual or moral impurity or deviation from an ideal. In the religious aspect, this definition cannot really be accepted because the church, religious institution or center of belief is usually a powerful entity which is perfect. There cannot be corruption within this because it belies the very foundation of what people are believing in and praying for. Therefore the church cannot be corrupt so it must be the people inside of the church that bring scandal. In a way this Interdisciplinary project is setting the blame for actions that corrupt and bring “impurity” to purity. Each church or religion has a distinct way of dealing with unjust actions by their members, and each will handle whatever financial misdealing’s exist. Many churches, though, in many situations, has not reset their policies or changed their views, mostly due to their beliefs. Therefore the “hole in their defenses” is left open and the possibility of a repeat situation can and will exist. There is a point that the rules, regulations and faith itself may be a weakness that the church may constantly face. Sociology, one of our disciplines, which is the scientific study of social behavior, origins, development and institutions, would apply to this.

 *****************************************************************************

Clayton R. Douglas, who wrote the article “The Corruption of our Churches” was raised a Methodist preacher. His father and grandfather were preachers as well. He found it very interesting that over the years that there were many problems with organized religions he came into contact with, even his own Methodist church. He found many connections with the church and government, citing the “new world order” and its attempts to dump the constitution and influence the church. He asks, in the article, how many historic situations of the bible have its influences on and off church philosophy and government laws, notably the Crusades and the Inquisition. These horrific scenarios should not have happened but years ago people in power in the church had been led by their own devices, not gods. There are still a few religious leaders that might command an audience of thousands, but their followers will not necessarily invade anther land and kill and attack men and women in the name of their god. What could have possessed people to do such a thing in any age and time? Thou shall not kill is a main commandment from the Christian religion and many others. With that in mind did the orders to kill in the Crusades and the Inquisition come from god or were there men associated with the church that gave orders contrary to god’s wishes? There seems to be many who used their own will and power within the church to achieve ends that only aid them. Political Science would, in this situation, would be the discipline that connects much of this report, being the study of government, political institutions, processes and behaviors. Many times it has been stated that the church and government should be separate but there are too many instances where they are not. In many of these instances, corruption ensues and the church and government involved are riddled with controversy.

 *****************************************************************************

Even in modern times there is a struggle to maintain the confidence of the people in many religions. The church must keep order when it comes to scandal, within and without. In the article by David Burke entitled “Pope faces threat from the Mafia”, the Pope and the Catholic Church have a crusade against the corruption that I speak of. They are in a constant correction and overhaul of the Vatican Bank which oversees much of the accounts of the church. That bank has much scandal in the many years of its existence and much is still being done to correct loss, access and reform. Money laundering seems to have affected the Vatican bank as well. Many people involved in the Mafia has associated themselves with the Catholic Church, not only giving money but repairs to the organization as well as funding festivals. According to this article a priest was arrested for trying to smuggle money from the Catholic Church in his position as a Catholic Church analyst. Why the church has not more openly refuted this is a big question with many. As stated in the article, “the church never raised the issue” and “the church never excommunicated a mobster”. Why would people that only fear god not repel evil? There are too many circumstances where this has happened. It points to an allowance of evil by good people. People who should have rid the church more straightforwardly of problems that plague it.

 *****************************************************************************

Many more religious institutions have also faced scandal and they are very recent with questionable practices in their religion. The article on “The Business of Religion” shows the power and ethics of one such church, The Church of Scientology. Established in 1952, has been accused of taking monies from vulnerable people and charging extortionate fees. They claim to have hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and assets. This particular church has, in my view, certain questionable practices but in a way can one question a church? Each one has its own beliefs and I believe that we can argue what they are trying to achieve and believe. If anything goes against their doctrine, faith and beliefs then it should be considered wrong and does not follow what they state to worship. That would be a fallacy of their belief and could be considered a “built in corruption”. Can an outsider judge what happens with the inner goings on of a church? Yes, especially if the church shows me something contrary to its practices. If I am a supporter of this church, temple or synagogue, I would expect more openness and trust.

 *****************************************************************************

“We give Religions More than 82.5 billion a Year” by Dylan Matthews talks of the people that go to these institutions and make donations. Based on the information in this article the people that go to these houses of worship have in many cases just made the heads of these religious organizations very rich and wealthy. Much of these funds would be cut short if the religion in question paid taxes or lost their exempt status. Televangelists and many faiths fall to corruption due to an influx of cash they have never seen before. This aids in the specific church falling prey to exorbitant lifestyles and situations that do not put the church in a good light. There are many of these modern day ministers who rise and fall on their follower’s backs, some of which began to show flaws in their practices. People are beginning to see that one of the many elements of corruption is the money they themselves bring into the church may lead to the corruption that brings it down. A similar article by Kevin Phillips, “American Theocracy”, also shows corruption in a similar fashion, thought it details more with political parties than religious organizations. The scandals, connections and allowance of impropriety are there in full force.

 *****************************************************************************

Not all people believe that corruption is only the cause of the church or its leaders, as stated by Lisa Keister in the article “Faith and Money: How Religion Contributes to Wealth”. Keister, a sociologist, claims religion affects wealth and economic outcomes for many Americans. “Religions shapes values and priorities” in many lives, much more than it corrupts.  The article later shows a definite difference in many of the separations of different religions and even similar religions, people, and areas. There may be a difference in values from Southern Baptists, for instance, than Baptists in the north. Hispanic Catholics may see and value differently ideals from Irish Catholics. African Americans may feel or have distinct differences from churches that have the same faith but no African Americans attend. This is a valid point from my topic due to many differences in the people that follow that particular belief. If people are from an area where there is little or no corruption they will feel their faith has strength and will avoid situations where mass amounts of corruption will force them to rethink their values. Weakness exists and they will deal with them on a step by step basis. A “housecleaning” may not be necessary. The foundations of many churches and their differences by creed, color, or race may test values in different ways.

 *****************************************************************************

The articles I have gathered show a pattern in many of the religions that we worship. We, our religious leaders or the church itself have what I believe is a weakness. Human, religious or otherwise, this weakness has kept many religions in a cloud of blame that belies the foundations of that belief. My topic, Money and religion and Corruption Within, does not mean to insult any following. It merely shows that corruption, to a degree, is part and parcel with the church, any church, and must be watched, managed, and weeded out. We are human beings and make mistakes. Even in our religious practices, we must strive to make sure our house is not falling down around us. Our religion supports us, aids us and in many cases keeps us alive. For it to fail is a question that we must ask, is this right. Are there people or conditions that bring impropriety to what we hold dear? This is something each and every church must examine for itself and protect what it has, especially in this financially wavering world. We know, or should know, that god is not at fault, but where does that leave us? Allowing corruption may be equal to causing the corruption. Of course, nowadays, whenever there is corruption the news circulates this information for all to see.  We then judge what situation we feel caused the corruption.

Sam Berns, 17, Public Face of a Rare Illness, Is Dead

Photo
Credit Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images
Sam Berns, a Massachusetts high school junior whose life with the illness progeria was the subject of a documentary film recently shortlisted for an Academy Award, died on Friday in Boston. He was 17.
His death, from complications of the disease, was announced by the Progeria Research Foundation, which Sam’s parents, both physicians, established in 1999.
Extremely rare — it affects one in four million to one in eight million births — progeria is a genetic disorder resulting in rapid premature aging. Only a few hundred people have the disease, whose hallmarks include hair loss, stunted growth, joint deterioration and cardiac problems.
Though the gene that causes progeria was isolated in 2003 by a research team that included Sam’s mother, there is still no cure. Patients live, on average, to the age of 13, typically dying of heart attacks or strokes.
The feature-length documentary “Life According to Sam,” directed by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine, was released last year. They won an Oscar for their 2012 short documentary “Inocente,” about a homeless teenager.
“Life According to Sam” has been shown at film festivals, including Sundance, and it was broadcast on HBO in October. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said it is among 15 documentaries considered for Oscar nominations.
Through the film, through a profile in The New York Times Magazine in 2005 and through a talk he gave last year at a TEDx conference (a community-based incarnation of the TED talks) that gained wide currency on the Internet, Sam became progeria’s best-known public face.
“Life According to Sam” opens when its subject, who lived in Foxborough, is 13 and follows him for three years. He agreed to participate on one condition, which he sets forth firmly in the film: “I didn’t put myself in front of you to have you feel bad for me,” he says. “You don’t need to feel bad for me. Because I want you to get to know me. This is my life.”
Diminutive and bespectacled, Sam was a riot of enthusiasms: for math and science, comic books, scouting (he was an Eagle Scout), playing the drums and Boston-area sports teams.
In his TEDx talk, he spoke of his heart’s desire: to play the snare drum with the Foxborough High School marching band. The trouble was that the drum and its harness weighed 40 pounds. Sam weighed 50 pounds. His parents engaged an engineer to develop an apparatus weighing just six pounds. Sam marched.
The only child of Dr. Scott Berns, a pediatrician, and Dr. Leslie Gordon, then a pediatric intern, Sampson Gordon Berns was born in Providence, R.I., on Oct. 23, 1996. He received a diagnosis of progeria shortly before his second birthday.
Finding little medical literature about progeria, his parents, with Dr. Gordon’s sister Audrey Gordon, started the research foundation. As a result of its work, clinical trials of a drug, lonafarnib, which appears to ameliorate some effects of progeria, began in 2007. Though preliminary results are considered encouraging, the drug does not constitute a cure.
Besides his parents, Sam’s survivors include his grandparents, Alice and Lewis Berns and Barbara and Burt Gordon.
At his death, Sam had been planning to apply to college, where he hoped to study genetics or cell biology.
“No matter what I choose to become, I believe that I can change the world,” he said in his TEDx talk last year. “And as I’m striving to change the world, I will be happy.”

MY COMMENTS****************************************************************

I have seen very few individuals with a super strength of character and determination. When Professor Klotz showed his video in class I thought to my self "what a dynamic person" who will keep going and never stop dreaming of what he wants, where he will go, and what he will do. I like people like that, who constantly keep going. It was a shame that when I finally looked him up online that he had passed away due to his condition. What a shame.

Besides liking it when the good guys win, he was a general well loved soul who kept to his beliefs and showed his true heart. He is a symbol of the Sociology discipline that we study in class. I only saw him in the video once but the link to it is above and you are welcome to freely click on it to get a piece of what he stood for.

Interdisciplinary Article Summation

Sekou Williams

FCIQ 101

Professor Ann Marie Klotz

Interdisciplinary Project Article Summation

Topic : Money and Religion and Corruption Within

Central Question:

The central question to my topic of Money and Religion and Corruption Within focuses on religions around the world and the effect that money may have on it. Does money corrupt religion? Does it just corrupt the people involved? Have our churches been assaulted all these years by a force that can weaken if not decimate the proper values of churches?  Over the years the church has changed, especially during these modern times, and much of it not really for the better. Current politics, financial hardships and such, have definitely had an effect on all religious organizations. These are some of the questions that I will be dealing with in my topic.

My stance:

I have believed mostly in Christianity all my life and I have seen and read news articles, radio reports and television shows that have asked the above question many times. I feel that my stance is correct and that the religions around the world are basically “under attack” when it comes to dealing with money, which is a necessity. We are all human and make mistakes, even those that govern the church. In any country or nation, the church is supposed to be a safe haven from political, economic and religious attacks. We are to feel safe at our center of belief and praise. “God” is her to guard us and protect us and if that situation changes due to any reason we will want to know why the church failed. In this summation I will show that the church is a power which has, in certain times and situations, was weak and has lost some of its respect.

Supporting arguments/articles:

I have gathered several articles from newspaper and magazines, most of which are peer reviewed, which deal with my argument that the church has, in many cases, lost its trust with its people and become corrupt. The first one is called Religion and Society by Sharon Parr. It explains how over the years the church has changed in much of its diversity between religious practices, especially after the baby boomer generation in the 1960’s.  Its influence and its followers have dealt with the changing world and their place in it. Spirituality as already complex and does not hold the same influence previously held and observed in society. When money comes into play, decisions necessary to the survival of the church must be more open, reasoned and handled with more care and thought. The mere appearance of improper dealings, whether buying from a local vendor, or which people in the church to help, may have repercussions that may bring down a church.

My second article, by Lisa Keister, “Faith and Money: how religion contributes to wealth and poverty,”, states that a growing body of research provides strong evidence that religion affects important economic outcomes for Americans, such as in education, income and work. She states in her article how, depending on your faith, how religion can directly influence many things among its followers. Upward mobility, work and occupations, indebtedness, home ownership and many other aspects including the flow of money from and to the church.  Apparently, there is a difference in power and stance of many churches, from Catholic, Protestant, Jews, Mormons and even subdivisions of churches. White Catholics, Black Catholics and Hispanic Catholics may each vary on their spending and associations with the church. One group may give more, spend more of the churches money, or receive monies that are given to the church as donations or for other reasons. The “all powerful church”, in certain cases, decides hopefully what will happen to these funds. The people following these churches, may definitely be a factor in the process as well.

“Of Virtue and Vice, and a Vatican Priest” by David Casati, tells of a very modern situation involving the Vatican and corruption within the Catholic Church. A trusted Monsignor, who had the honored position of being a top accountant at the Vatican office and managed the Holy See’s real estate and investments, was arrested. He is currently on trial, accused of money laundering and trying to smuggle over 26 million from Switzerland to Italy in a private plane, even with the help of an Italian secret Service agent. This particular person, Monsignor Nunzio Scarano, whose own personal wealth totals over 8.2 million, was paid by the church roughly 41,000 a year to manage Vatican funds. He abused his position, and used funds to maintain illegal dealings.  One statement Quoted from the Monsignor states he felt as if he was “Robin Hood” and took from the rich to give to the poor. This article goes on to state that this is not the first time well trusted people within the church have pilfered or robbed the Vatican. It has gone on for years. The present Pope has already responded to this and other allegations by reformatting the church and its banking dealings, lessening the amounts in certain cases and cutting down on the numerous accounts the church holds.

Dylan Matthews who wrote the article “You Give religions More than 82.5 billion a year” focuses on many religions and churches that a person might see on Sunday morning television.  Hundreds of programs that have been in existence for decades and have many true believers seem to have more capital than established religions on this planet for centuries. The writer of this article asks the question that if these churches and synagogues, mosques and the like lost their tax privileges, how much tax revenue they would generate. We have all heard scandals around these televangelists and know they make fortunes, but can this be a factor in what churches around the globe are dealing with? Organizations making billions and falling short of their common core beliefs? Losing touch with their faith for the comforts available due to their available flow of cash? A study was done and many of the churches here in America have over an estimated $600 billion in property scattered across the 50 states.

A very good article entitled ”The Business of Religion” by the money.co.uk team has taken a good approach to modern day churches and institutions by breaking down the finances of many of the religions and groups we have known around the world. It starts off by saying that money and religion is a grey area fraught with conspiracy and scandal. Some of the wealthiest organizations on the planet are religious or religious movements, ancient and modern, but their followers are the poorest, leading one to think where is all the money gone.

The article further goes on to show some of the vast wealth collected by these organizations, such as Scientology, which claims to have over 8 million followers worldwide and Hundreds of millions of dollars in assets. Many famous people have joined them but most of their members are very poor. The largest church the article mentions is, of course, the biggest. The Catholic Church has supposedly over 1.81 billion members across the world and its scandals are well known. The main point of this article is that organizations with huge amounts of money seem more geared to problems with their finances that their beliefs. Some with groups like Scientology have questions on both aspects.

Opposing stance:

The stance against my argument shows that the church, religious groups, and organizations have always fought against corruption and that this is something they have dealt with for years. It is an attack against the church that have may “shaken” things up a bit, but the church is strong and has dealt with worse over centuries of existence, in many cases. The power of belief, helping citizens of many countries and supporting generations cannot be defeated just by a few attempts by the weak, the greedy or corrupt people can bring a church down.

Opposing Arguments/articles

“Money: Though for God’s Stewards”, by Reverend Andrew Murray, will focus on the sanctity of the church. He writes that in the world of money there is a standard of value and that it is difficult to express all that money means. It can be a blessing or it can be a curse. Even in the kingdom of heaven one is judged by the money he has, how he obtained it and uses it are factors as well. Money can be tempting but the church must manage it and not fall to temptation. It is to be sacrificed to God for the good of the church and man and the church must be strengthened by the way they deal with money. As much as money is spent on self,” God may help the soul in the victory that overcomes the world and the flesh.” This is an important statement he makes in showing the church is powerful and must make right with what they collect, raise and supply the people they support with. Every effort must be made to resist temptation and the few who fall in the cracks will not bring the church down. It is strong, in this case his church and is here to help the people.

There is an interesting point in the article “The Corruption of our Churches” by Jackie Patna. It brings about the church and its ongoing involvement with the government or different governments. For centuries, the church in many ways had to follow government dictates, pay taxes or follow doctrines to survive. In order to help the people that follow that particular religion, the church had to go along with any scenario, even if it means breaking with the churches own rules to exist.  Those in power may not act in our favor and we sometimes must “stand up to the system” in order to deal with survival. Many times it is the government in control and religion is given a second standing. Additionally, people in power in the church may give “order” to the situation in order to keep the peace. A follower may not know it, but the church basically saved his or her life. By adapting to their environment, the church exists to save the people.

My third peer reviewed article in my opposing stance is by Mara Einstein which is called “In Brands of Faith”. She deals with the marketing of religion in the twenty first century and how it can affect and interact with modern society. According to her and the American Marketing Association, marketing can be described as the process of planning and executing the concept, planning and pricing and promotion of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfies individual and organizational objectives.  The marketing of religion has gone on since before the printing press. The church, institution or religion is trying to reach the people in order to help them get closer to god. This is a noble goal and can only be questioned if there is something wrong with which the marketing may be deployed. Not only can money can corrupt, but the marketing to the people as well. Truth in advertising is a concept that has been bantered about for years, but can we find which truth in which religion? This is a subject which may not be able to be answered satisfactorily. A church must survive with members. The church must let the members know in certain cases they exist, and “marketing” must be fair, especially if they are marketing just to get the patrons money. Marketing is a business and the church does in many ways market it well.

This fourth article, “Corruptions Is a Greater Evil that Sin”, shows how the Pope and other leaders have been fighting back for many years in dealing with corruption and what has been going on with financial problems within their organizations. It has been governments and banks over the years that the church has dealt with that have in fact allowed corruption to continue concerning the church. Government in many cases have been told or found that the banks knew of fraud, corruption and greed against the church and basically have turned a blind eye to what was happening. Even the President of the New York Federal Reserve has repeatedly stated that bankers must improve their ethics. No one seems to be listening and the church can only do its part in monitoring its financial dealings. The church, like many other organizations must keep its money in banks. Too much cash around may lead to the very thing that churches want to avoid, which is scandal. Additional laws and regulations have been put in place to stop the attacks on the church monies, and many religious groups have taken similar actions to ensure their wellbeing. In fact, as this article states, the bible asks us to stand up and do justice to anyone who would do injustice or oppress the people. There is even a cartoon at the beginning of the article showing Jesus driving the money changers out of the temple with a modern day interpretation. Instead of old world moneychangers, they show people from Barclays, Citibank and JP Morgan chase.

Connection to two or more disciplines:

The two connections to our Foundations of Inquiry class disciplines are political Science and Sociology. I have clearly defined that my topic. Money and Religion and Corruption Within has shown a definite connection to political science, being a social science that studies the state, nation government and politics of government. In many ways the government has involved itself with the church and what may or may not go on with church dealings. There are underlying facts and connections between the church and whatever government it associates with. Both deal with the people under its realm, or “jurisdiction, if you will. Both are supposed to have a relationship with the people and both the church and government have a control over what happens.

Also, Sociology plays a factor in this topic as well. The academic study of social behavior tells us that various methods of beliefs and how we connect ourselves to our society and class and structure forms many of our beliefs and customs. Subject matters range from one individual to many people involved in our region, area countries and interactions with each other.  Even Psychology, the way we think is connected in this topic of religion. How we believe and what we believe is a definite connection.

Conclusion:

I believe that my topic may be a little touchy and cause some insult to people, but in the end perhaps it may strengthen their belief and help clear out any doubt that money, or the love of it, is the root of all evil. The church has weakened in many years, its population has shrunken and more and more scandals will be shown. Only by strengthening its resolve, the church must more than ever fight to keep its people, its trust and its use of money proper and whole. There is a constant and continuing problem and the churches, religious institutions, and groups must fend off what will be an ongoing fight. One side may state that the church has constantly fought against corruption and that governments, banks and greed alone are the cause of monetary loss. Other articles I have submitted here deal with churches “covering up” many situations and putting them under the proverbial rug, allowing the corruption to continue. In certain cases the organization itself may be questionable, Like Scientology.

In any case, modern day leaders like the Pope have put in place procedures to stop banks, criminals, and even unfortunately its own members, from pilfering. Certain groups have monitored these religions to see where the money goes, does it go to the people, how much is there, or is there questionable ethics involved in the church practices themselves? One cannot truly say with one church, for this problem involves many churches, many people and many governments. I feel, though, we can find a piece of the answer in my Interdisciplinary report.
